Our Process for Decorative Rock & Bark Installation

At D & D Landscaping, decorative rock and bark installations are more than visual upgrades—they improve soil health, reduce maintenance, and enhance your landscape’s overall appeal. Here’s how we make it happen, step by step.

Step 1: Site Visit & Consultation

We start with an on-site consultation to understand your goals and assess your property. Our team reviews bed layout, soil, sun exposure, and drainage, then helps you choose rock or bark options that fit your landscape style and maintenance needs.

Step 2: Material Selection

Choose from our wide selection of decorative rock and bark—river rock, crushed gravel, lava rock, shredded bark, or natural mulch. We guide you based on appearance, functionality, and longevity, then coordinate sourcing and delivery for your project.

Step 3: Area Preparation

Before installation, we clear old material, debris, and weeds, level and compact soil, and edge your beds for clean lines. If desired, we install a weed barrier fabric to prevent growth while allowing moisture and nutrients to reach the soil.

Step 4: Installation

We spread decorative rock or bark evenly at the proper depth—usually 2–4 inches—while protecting nearby plants. Each zone is installed carefully with clean transitions between materials, ensuring a balanced, professional look across your landscape.

Step 5: Clean Edging & Finishing Touches

After installation, we rake and level the surface, refine borders, and remove leftover materials. Optional edging—concrete, steel, or plastic—can be added to secure the material and define each space. We review everything with you before completion.

Step 6: Maintenance Recommendations

We provide easy care tips—how to refresh materials, prevent weeds, and keep your landscape clean. For continued upkeep, our team also offers seasonal maintenance to keep your rock and bark areas looking fresh all year long.
